In All Fall Down, Warren Beatty pretends to be James Dean or Marlon Brando, but without the masculine charisma. In his portrayal of the seductive ladies' man. Berry -Berry (Beatty) is a drifter who seduces, uses and robs the women he meets, sometimes ending up in jail for using his fists on his girlfriends. Clinton Willart (Brandon De Wilde), is the innocent 16 year old teenager who hero worships his older brother, even after bailing him out of jail in Key West, Florida.
Ralph and Annabelle Willart (Karl Malden and Angela Lansbury) are the doting parents in Cleveland who long to see their beloved but errant son. Ralph Willart is a whiskey drinking but well meaning man who wires his son money when he lands in jail. Annabelle is a rather nervous mother with a tendency to talk too much.
Family Changes as They See True Nature of Berry - Berry
The family's admiration and acceptance of irresponsible Berry-Berry crumbles when he takes advantage of a beautiful older woman and family friend, Echo O'Brien (Eva Marie Saint), who falls in love with the ladies' man. Clint, his wide eyed younger brother is the observer who watches Berry-Berry break the heart of the woman that he has a crush on. As the movie progresses the viewer experiences Clint's love and admiration of his older brother as it turns to distaste.
